The wide angle module of the Find X2 Neo plays in the upper league in bright light situations, achieving one of the best single scores altogether. But when the light fades, the image quality decreases as well. The normal focal length (2x zoom) and the super wide angle lens are useable in bright light, but their image quality falls behind the one of the main camera. At night, both are hardly useable. All in all, the Find X2 Neo is only a good choice for photographers if they can stick with the wide angle camera.

Wide angle (main camera) – 1.7/4.77 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 26 mm), 48 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 or 48 MP

Once again, a 48 NP sensor offering the option to take images also with a resolution of 12 MP. But in contrast to most of the other phones with a 48 MP sensor, the images with the maximum resolution actually win the internal comparison. This is not surprising in bright light – here, the competition performs similarly. But it is still unusual how good the image quality actually is, because in sufficient light the reproduction quality is just top. With heavy enlargements, artefacts do become visible, but the level of detail more than balances this. The high resolution and the high Dead Leaves values are well visible in the image, at the same time the wide angle module applies the re-sharpening only very moderately in bright light situations. It is okay that leaves a little more noise in the images. If the light decreases, the resolution and Dead Leaves results sink as well, at the same time Oppo raises the edge enhancement – making the image quality and our scoring drop considerably. However, switching to the 12 MP setting changes only little about this. At night, the whole thing looks even worse. Our assessment is based in the higher score count of the 48 MP solution.

Normal focal length – 2.4/6.25 mm lens 

(35mm equivalent: 53 mm), 13 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP

The normal focal length camera offers an optical 2x zoom which achieves good quality in bright light. Still, the reproduction quality does not quite reach the very high level of the wide angle lens. With sufficient light, the camera can still be used as a portrait focal length – however, the heady edge enhancement can lead to unpleasant artefacts. If the light dwindles, the Dead Leaves and resolution values decrease – but so does the edge enhancement. At night, the normal focal length is not worth using.

Super wide angle – 2.2/2.13 mm

(35mm equivalent: 13 mm), 8 MP sensor, JPEG with 8 MP

With only 8 megapixels, the super wide angle module’s resolution is comparably low. This is also the main problem with this camera. All in all, the images in bright light and early twilight are okay – but in lack of resolution, the level of detail remains overall a little low. At night the photographer better refrains from using the super wide angle camera: Along with the noise, the Oppo also deletes most of the fine structures.
