Wide angle (main camera) – 1.8/5.58 mm lens
(35mm equivalent: 26 mm), 64 MP sensor, JPEG with 16 or 64 MP
The wide angle module with a resolution of 64 MP makes a good impression, providing a high resolution in bright light. However, Realme engages too much in the signal processing. Edges are violently re-sharpened, which helps in bringing the Dead Leaves values to high levels, but does not look good any more depending on the motive. This criticism also applies to the 16 MP setting. It still forges ahead in decreasing light and then turns out to be the better choice. Our assessment is based on the overall higher score of the 16 MP solution.
Normal focal length – 2.5/6.25 mm lens
(35mm equivalent: 54 mm), 12 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP
We only like the photos taken by the camera with normal focal length when they were made in bright light situations. In spite of the optical zoom, the image quality deteriorates too distinctly when the light dwindles. The Huawei P40 or P40 Pro do this job much better even with a digital zoom – but the Huawei phones can also use a wider data source. With a lot of light, the normal lens can also be used as a portrait camera – if the aggressive signal processing does not interfere.
Super wide angle – 2.3/1.66 mm
(35mm equivalent: 13 mm), 9 MP sensor, JPEG with 8 MP
As for all 8 MP super wide angle cameras, the rule applies here as well: The resolution is not sufficient in order to fully use this camera holding up to photographic standards. Even under the best shooting conditions, the images lack fine details.
