The same as its sister model 6 Pro, the X50 Pro has a trump card up its sleeve: Its wide angle camera. The super wide angle module hardly knocks anybody off their feet, and also the normal camera is only of limited use.
Wide angle (main camera) – 1.8/5.58 mm lens
(35mm equivalent: 26 mm), 64 MP sensor, JPEG with 16 or 64 MP
Realme equips the X50 Pro with the same cameras as already the 6 Pro – the resulting images also look similar. In some areas, the signal processing works differently, which results in small deviations in the measurements. The 16 MP images of the wide angle unit are modulated a little harder. In bright light, they partially show somewhat more detailed structures. However, when taking night shots, the image quality heavily decreases. Missing details are then amended by creative optimizations from the signal processing. At bright light, the sensor’s maximum resolution of 64 megapixels is also an alternativ. Again, we find the signal processing to act too aggressively – in the 6 Pro the images are tuned a little more skillfully, but also too aggressively re-sharpened. Our assessment is based on the overall higher score of the 16 MP solution.
Normal focal length – 2.5/6.25 mm lens
(35mm equivalent: 54 mm), 12 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP
The signal processing of the normal camera works equally aggressively. This means: The images of both Realme models score close together, the Pro is tunes a little more aggressively. In bright light, the photographer can use the normal camera, albeit its quality is below the one of the wide angle camera. When it comes to portraits, the hard egde sharpening can produce unattractive effects within the image. At night, the photographer should better refrain from using the normal lens.
Super wide angle – 2.3/1.66 mm lens
(35mm equivalent: 13 mm), 8 MP sensor, JPEG with 8 MP
We have to repeat ourselves: Due to its low sensor resolutions of 8 MP, the super wide angle camera is not a convincing option for photographers. When used, it delivers a comparatively low degree of details even at bright light.
