The convincing wide angle camera delivers the best performance. The other two cameras are welcome as an addition, but do not reach the same top level of quality.

Wide angle (main camera) – 1.8/7 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 26 mm), 108 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 or 108 MP

The S20 Ultra also make use of the 108 MP wide angle camera. In bright light, the 108 MP JPEG offers the best results. When the light decreases, we recommend the 12 MP image. The S20 Ultra takes a little less action against noise than the Note 20 Ultra 5G. In some structures, this leads to minor losses, others appear more crisply. All in all, the wide angle camera is very good. Our assessment is based in the higher score count of the 12 MP solution.

Normal focal length – 1.8/7 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 52 mm), 108 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP

As a digital normal focal length, the wide angle camera delivers 12 MP JPEGs which feature visibly less details in almost all structures, but harder and more eye-catching edges.

Tele lens – 3.5/19 mm

(35mm equivalent: 103 mm), 48 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP

The tele module has a 48 MP sensor with pixel binning, but at an aperture of 3.5 a relatively slow lens. The output is 12 MP JPEGs. At bright light, the S20 Ultra does not quite reach the level of detail as the Note 20 Ultra. Its images are smoother and poorer in detail. In low light situations, the detail reproduction gets more aligned. When the night falls, there remains not much more from the tele image of the S20 Ultra as with the Note 20 Ultra – the result is also not good. All in all, the camera offers a comparable performance, unfortunately only achieving one of the last ranks.

Super wide angle – 2.2/2.20 mm lens

(35mm equivalent: 13 mm), 12 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP

In the S20 Ultra, we once again encounter the 12 MP super wide angle module. We have to repeat the criticism from the assessment of the S20 Plus: The images always look slightly blurry. However, the S20 Ultra delivers more details. The Dead Leaves values for high-contrast structures are higher, but this also applies to the noise. With this performance, the Ultra’s super wide angle lens achieves more points – but it is still no a recommendation for low-light situations.
