From a photographic perspective, the Sony Xperia 10 III falls short of expectations. Even the best camera, the wide-angle, can only convince in parts. The short telephoto and the super-wide-angle perform adequately at best.
Wide angle (main camera) – 1.8/4 mm lens
(35mm equivalent: 27 mm), 12 MP sensor, JPEG wit 12 MP
Like the more expensive Xperia 1 III and 5 III models, the wide-angle camera of the Xperia 10 III relies on a lower 12 MP resolution and larger pixels to have more reserves in suboptimal lighting conditions. But since the 10 III sensor is smaller than the 1 III and 5 III models, 1/2.8-inch instead of 1/1.7-inch, the smartphone overall does not reach the level of its more expensive siblings. In terms of resolution, the Sony 10 III cannot keep up with the rivals that rely on 48 MP or 64 MP sensors.
The image quality is still okay in a lot of light (5000 lux). The rather restrained signal processing is noticed positively. With decreasing light (200 lux), the fine details decrease, the structures are mapped softer, and a slight noise becomes visible. The camera is still usable, but already not very convincing. At night (5 Lux), the performance is no longer sufficient.
Normal focal length – 2.4/5.5 mm lens
(35mm equivalent: 54 mm), 12 MP sensor, JPEG with 12 MP
The optical 2x zoom is primarily a portrait lens. However, the Xperia still uses the main camera and zooms digitally at zoom factor 2, and the short telephoto is only used at 2.2. However, the sensor is quite small at 1/4-inch and only offers 8 MP resolution - which is not a good prerequisite for image quality. The quality gap to the wide-angle camera is already so large in high light that we cannot really recommend this camera. It quickly degrades when the light fades. At night, the device often switches to the wide-angle camera and zooms digitally. However, even that cannot change the poor night result. Super wide angle – 2.2/1.7 mm lens

The super wide-angle also works with an 8MP sensor and presents only a weak performance. Even under the best lighting conditions (5000 lux), the shots are poor in detail, full of artifacts and only usable with a great deal of compromise. In low light (200 lux), they are no longer. click to enlarge
