The Vivo Y70's photo equipment is limited to a wide-angle camera that unfolds its best performance in 12 MP mode. In high light, it performs on a good level - but the image tuning is too aggressive. It is still decent in less light, but not at night. The digital zoom solution - as a 50 mm KB lens - is not convincing.
Wide angle (main camera) – 1.8/4.7 mm (full-frame equivalent:
25 mm), 48 MP sensor, JPEG with 48 OR 12 MP
Our rating is based on the 12 megapixel JPEG recordings. Theoretically, the camera's resolution can be switched to 48 MP, but it does not bring any advantages in image quality. Even in favourable lighting conditions, the 48-MP images deliver a very similar level of fine detail to the 12-megapixel images: We only observed finer details rarely and only in images taken from a short distance. When the light fades, the 12 MP photos take the lead in the quality race. We therefore recommend using the 12 MP resolution throughout. At least the Vivo benefits from the 48-MP sensor in that the adding up the pixels has a positive effect on the resolution rates. However, the high measured values are not least "forced" by a very aggressive signal processing. This raises the contrasts noticeably and visibly strengthens the edges. The pictures look artificial, the faces too smooth. With decreasing light (200 lux), the picture quality decreases noticeably, but not yet dramatically: noise increases, the resolution decreases, and the finer structures are no longer reproduced clearly. Once again, overdrawn edges are noticeable. At night (5 Lux), the Vivo Y70 is no longer convincing, because the drop in performance is then too great.

If you use the wide-angle as a 2x digital zoom corresponding to 50 mm full-frame equivalent, you have to accept a significantly reduced image quality. Vivo keeps the image noise low when upsizing the cropped shots. However, they lack detail resolution. At 200 Lux, the resolution drops a bit further and artifacts appear more. At 5 Lux, not much is recognizable on the image anymore.
